O saxofonista de jazz Branford Marsalis volta a se apresentar na sexta-feira, 26 de junho com seu quarteto no XX Jazz Winnipeg Festival no Canadá. A ultima vez que o musico de jazz deu o ar de sua graça na cidade foi em 1991 durante a segunda edição do festival com uma banda estelar que contava com a presença de Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz e o falecido pianista Kenny Kirkland, quando juntos, incendiaram o palco do Centennial Concert Hall numa homenagem à Miles Davis.
Desta vez ele vem com o veterano baterista Jeff "Tain" Watts" que demonstrará novos solos e a grande estrela em ascenção do momento, o jovem pianista Justin Faulkner de 18 anos. Justin é finalista do ensino médio em uma escola da Filadélfia e integrou-se a banda três meses atrás, e tem atraído a atenção da critica especializada, merecendo até artigo publicado no New York Times ( os que lêem em Inglês basta clicar na parte que menciona este fato), fechando o elenco da banda estão o pianista Joey Calderazzo e o baixista Eric Revis.
Não resta dúvidas de que a apresentação do quarteto de Marsalis será a grande sensação durante a celebração dos 20 anos do Jazz Winnipeg Festival.

Branford Marsalis performed in the 2nd Jazz Winnipeg Festival back in 1991. That night, Branford and an all-star band that included Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz and the late Kenny Kirkland on piano, burned up the stage at the Centennial Concert Hall in a tribute to Miles Davis.
With long-time drummer Jeff 'Tain' Watts pursuing solo projects, the band has been playing with a rising star in the form of 18-year-old Justin Faulkner. The high school senior from Philadelphia has been playing with the band for less than three months and he's making big waves as this recent New York Times article shows.

The Branford Marsalis Quartet performs on Friday, June 26th at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre. This show will undoubtedly be a highlight of Jazz Winnipeg Festival's 20-year celebration.
